My philosophy, whenever I want to bring on a new experience and create a new result, is to learn from people who currently have what I want. Today, I learned of a secret from a celebrity who's known for her amazingly youthful skin. This woman is 41 years old and can be easily mistaken for being at least a decade younger. The person I'm referring to is Sanaa Lathan.

Sanaa Lathan, Gabrielle Union, and Nia Long are a part of a "healthy glow trinity" that intrigue me. Whatever Kool-aid they're drinking, I want to take a long, satisfying, sip. We already know one of Gabrielle's secrets to perfect skin. Now it's time to get to know Sanaa's. Her secret is similar to Gabby's in a way. Both methods involve helping the body accelerate in ridding toxins. One is done by drinking a gallon of water a day, the other is through different means.
I read a little bit about Sanaa's strategy in a Hype Hair article. In it , she describes her method of going from the sauna to cold water multiple times in a cycle. Sanaa explained that such a technique was "really amazing for the skin." After reading this, I was highly unsatisfied and wanted to learn more. I continued my search until I came across more detail around her process as documented in the book, "The Black Book of Hollywood Secrets." In it, the author gives us a greater glimpse into Sanaa's routine. Sanaa told the author that she goes "to a sauna once a week and does ten-minute intervals." She "sits in the heat for only 10-15 minutes, tops." Afterwards, she "gets out and takes a cool to cold shower or jumps in a cold pool." The she "sits in the sauna for another 10 minutes followed by another cold shower or dip in the pool." She alternates this process for "an entire hour." Sanaa does this because "it's amazing for your skin." "People will say, wow, you're entire being is glowing, what did you do?"
After reading this, I got to thinking, about the time, long ago when I consistently took cold showers. Not only did my hair benefit, my skin was absolutely amazing! It was soft, toned, and healthy looking. My hair thrived as well. So now I'm kicking my inner wuss to the curb and going back to this incredible experience. Actually, I started yesterday. Another thing I did was utilize the sauna (for the first time) at my local gym.
(me, meditating in a sauna, enjoying the serenity of being surrounded by the warming heat).
I've used a steam room in the past but a sauna was a new experience for me. Unlike the steam room which has moist air, I relished the feeling of when the sweat first begins to appear on my skin. After the sauna, I jumped in the steam room for another 10 minutes. Because I had an event to attend, I didn't get to execute the entire Sanaa Lathan routine. I took a cold shower when I got home and the experience was phenomenal. Mark my words, I will try her routine and I'll let you all know my results. I debated as to whether I should hold off on posting this until I had a chance to experiment a little more, but I decided to share in case someone wants to test this method.
Are any of you as excited to try this as I am?
I love your blog & Sanaa Latham! You might be interested in reading info from Dr. Jack Kruse, a neurosurgeon that talks about cold thermogenesis & benefits of cold showers for the body. Keep up the great posts
ReplyDeleteI love Sanaa too! African black soap and coconut oil are well known for slowing down the ageing process (wrinkles and fine lines) as well...
ReplyDeleteAfrican Black soap and coconut oil have been known to slow down the ageing process...I love Sanaa too, Gabrielle Union could easily pass for someone in her late twenties
ReplyDeleteI tried the hot, cold method at a Japanese spa in midtown that Madonna was rumored to frequent years ago. I can't remember the name, but it was one of those places that looks like a hole in the wall on the outside and a palace on the inside. I love those kind of places. Any who, one of the rooms is large with two pools. One pools is super hot and the other is super cold. You go back and forth between the two and then a wet sauna followed by dry heat. It was an intense an experience. I was not brave enough to go back.
ReplyDeleteMY SKIN TRINITY: GABRIELLE, NIA, AND HALLE.
ReplyDeleteBOTH NIA AND HALLE ARE PRETTY BIG ON SPAS AND STEAMING.
THEY LOVE TO PRESEVE THAT GLOW FOR THEIR SKIN. NIA WITH AURA GLOW AND HALLE WITH KINARA RED CARPERT FACIAL AND OLE HENRIKSEN AFRICAN RED TEA BODY PRODUCTS.
GREAT POST.
I love Sanaa Lathan...she seems like a beautiful person inside and out. I doubt that method is the key to her gorgeous skin, though. It looks like it's just genetics. Her mom has the same lovely skin and glow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awareness. Quality subject to dwell upon.
ReplyDeleteLimiting use of deodorant and antiperspirants also helps the body get rid of toxics the natural way. Try a couple of days without every week and you Will see a difference also to break outs on the back and chest
ReplyDeleteCold water showers are really great for the skin! I just really like HOT showers. :/
