The first thing I did was head to Instagram and search the tag for a local stylist. I landed on a page and admired the girls work. Eventually, I clicked the bio link to her website and discovered that these locs could cost me nearly $400. I understand that braiding styles are a huge time investment, but $400 was a bit pricey. In actuality, I didn't need a stylist to hand wrap the individual locs. I needed a simple solution that would produce the same results.
And I think I've found it!
After determining that several hundred dollars was more than I wanted to pay, I thought of the less expensive option--crochets. I would simply buy the hair and install using the crochet method.
Simple enough, right?
The only problem is that I preferred the look of individual braids for this look versus installing them on cornrows. Individual plaits allow for versatility in styling options. Sometimes, cornrows limit how much you can do with the style one installed. I'm also fearful the cornrow pattern would become visible if I ever wore the style in a giant bun.
What's a girl to do?
Thankfully, some highly intelligent women have developed the perfect solution! It's simple, easy to do, and requires very little skill. Don't know how to cornrow? No problem!
The solution is perfectly simple.
All you need to do is know how to braid your hair into individual plaits. They don't even have to be fancy because they'll be concealed. The rest of the process involves installing the loc then wrapping your braid into it. Believe me, it sounds more complicated than it actually is. Even if you don't know how to braid, and can only twist your hair, this style is still possible!
Here are a couple video tutorials that will walk you step by step through the easiest method for at home goddess locs.
Enjoy.
This second video is great because she explains the common mistakes one can make during this process and how to avoid them.
