The other day, a video featuring Zoe Kravitz's skincare routine showed up on my list of recommendations. Zoe has nice skin so I figured, "why not?" Any time I watch a celebrity skin routine video, I scour the content for gems that I can incorporate into my routine asap. Sometimes I come up empty-handed but that didn't happen this time.
In fact, one of Zoe's favorite products has now become a staple in my routine and I can't wait to share it with you.
The video starts off with Zoe explaining her love and dedication to skincare that started when she was young. As a daughter of a celebrity, it makes sense that Zoe would be introduced to beauty routines in her youth. After years of dedication, Zoe narrowed down her entire routine into a few simple products that get the job done.
Here's a rundown of how Zoe maintains her flawless skin.
{Step 1.} Rhonda Allison Pumpkin Cleanser.
With fall being around the corner, the idea of a pumpkin cleanser sounds yummy. Zoe talks about how her cleanser "smells like Christmas" and I thought, "pumpkin-scented cleanser sounds like a cute idea." But once I looked into the beauty benefits of pumpkin, I sat up in my chair. Pumpkin is rich in beta carotene and vitamin A which are amazing for the skin. Pumpkin also contains natural enzymes that gently refine and exfoliate. I'm obsessed with pumpkin-scented anything. But a pumpkin scented cleanser that also resurfaces our skin makes it that much better.
Step 2. Retrouve Serum
Zoe's favorite serum is by a brand called Retrouve and retails for $325.00. That's pretty pricey for a 1oz bottle. Seems like this brand is a celebrity favorite because Demi Moore features a couple of their products in her skin routine video and so did Beverly Johnson. After watching a few reviews from those who've tried it, I've come to the consensus that people really love this line. If you're looking to upgrade your skin products and want to invest in a luxury brand, Retrouve might be a good choice because people are obsessed with the results.
Step 3. Post Serum Mist
After massaging in her serum, Zoe mists her face with Caudalie Beauty Elixir. This is interesting to me because whenever I use a facial mist, I do it immediately after toning. But misting post-serum actually might make more sense. A decent serum typically contains yummy actives like nutrients, peptides, antioxidants, etc. My misting first, I hydrate the skin to the point where it might not absorb the serum as quickly or deeply as desired. I want the serum to penetrate my skin, not evaporate on the surface. By waiting for the serum to fully absorb before misting, I help keep the surface of the skin hydrated longer which is a really good thing.
Step 4. ISUN Sun Butter (SPF)
Instead of applying moisturizer, Zoe skips directly to sunscreen. Her sunscreen of choice is in the form of a butter. When she applied it, I was like..."hold up....they make sunscreen butter...count me in!" Immediately, I went searching for the brand of sun butter that she used. Unfortunately, they were sold out. But then I found another brand on Amazon, but one of the reviews said that it gave a white cast on dark skin.
But I wasn't discouraged....
My last resort was to create a DIY version. It was super simple. I took a high SPF sunscreen and blended it with some shea butter in the palm of my hand before applying it to my legs and arms. Let it be known that the sunscreen I used had a very strong white cast. I almost threw the tube away because my skin looked grey whenever I wore it. But, thanks to the addition of my beloved shea butter, there was no white cast to be found.
Thanks to Zoe, I have found my favorite form of SPF. I never knew SPF butter existed and now I won't be able to live without it. Normally, I do a good job of applying SPF on my face but I tend to neglect my legs, arms, and hands. Now, when I lotion my arms and legs with shea butter, I'll lace it with high potency SPF and call it a day.
When Zoe moves on to her makeup routine, we see that she's still using her favorite concealer, YSL's Touche Eclat. Years ago, I wrote an article years ago about how Zoe uses this product and it seems like she's still a fan. I don't blame her. Touche Eclat is a darn good product. It's not very thick so the coverage is light but it blends really well with the skin which allows you to blur imperfections rather than aggressively covering them up. What I like about this concealer is that I don't need to cover it with foundation because it melts into the skin. Perfect for no-makeup-makeup.
